Wrong-way truck hit Texas school bus

On Behalf of | Nov 28, 2021 | Personal Injury

Governor Greg Abbott and Senator Ted Cruz were among those who publicly offered condolences to Texas families grieving the loss of loved ones who were killed in a horrific collision. A school bus carrying 25 students from a marching band, in addition to several adults, was suddenly struck by a truck in a head-on crash. The truck was traveling the wrong way on the highway.

Several students were airlifted to a nearby hospital

When a person suffers critical or life-threatening injuries in a collision, time is of the essence to get him or her to the nearest emergency room that is equipped to handle the situation. If transporting an accident victim by ambulance will take too long, a medivac helicopter is dispatched to the scene. When the wrong-way truck hit the school bus head on, it resulted in critical injuries to several students and an adult on board the bus, who were then airlifted to a hospital for emergency care.

Not everyone made it through the collision alive

Sadly, two adults who were traveling on the bus at the time did not survive the crash. The person who was behind the wheel of the truck that hit the bus also suffered fatal injuries. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety stated expressed sympathy to the families who lost loved ones in the tragedy.

Coping with a loved one’s sudden death

Texas parents who entrust their children’s transportation to a school bus driver can reasonably expect that driver to adhere to traffic laws and to do everything possible to arrive safely to the destination. The marching band members on board the school bus that was hit by a truck never it made to the football game they were going to attend. The entire community is grieving the loss of those who died. Coping with sudden death is difficult. Many families take comfort in knowing that, at least, they can seek justice on behalf of their deceased loved one by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court against the person deemed responsible for their family member’s death. In cases where the person responsible has also died, a claim can be filed against his or her estate.
