Fatal Texas freight train collision

On Behalf of | Sep 12, 2021 | Personal Injury

A stretch of railroad tracks at a crossroad in Texas recently became the scene of a tragedy. This specific section of tracks opened to motorists. Moments before the tragedy occurred, there were vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, stopped on the tracks, waiting for traffic to start moving.

A train failed to stop when it approached the crossing

As the truck driver waited with the other motorists, a freight train suddenly came along the tracks and struck the truck. The incident occurred a few minutes past 7 a.m. on a Wednesday. The force of impact caused the truck to ignite into flames.

The truck driver suffered fatal injuries

The truck driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials later stated that there were no hazmat materials involved in the incident and that the freight train did not derail. Investigators have been tasked with determining exactly who or what caused the fatal crash to occur.

This type of investigation can take months or longer

When a freight train is involved in a Texas collision, it can months or more for investigators to form conclusions based on evidence they gather from the scene and any witnesses who may have been there when the crash took place. Such incidents often lead to litigation, especially if the evidence shows that negligence was a causal factor. In the case of a commercial vehicle operator being deemed responsible for another driver’s death, an immediate family member of the decedent would be allowed to seek compensation for damages by filing a wrongful death claim in a civil court.
